Exchange students jumping on a Brazilian beach

Several countries to choose from

CET International has 14 countries on offer for high school students who wish to experience school and life in another country. When thinking about traveling abroad as an exchange student we recommend you compare two to three countries before you decide where to go.

Let us know what countries you are interested in and what you would like to do as an exchange student, we will recommend you the destinations that best fit your expectations.

The following applies to all the countries that are in our exchange student program:
  • Host families are carefully selected. All host families have gone through the same kind of application process as you and their homes have been visited by local representatives
  • Host families represent local middle-class. You may think your own family is a typical middle-class family and will see that middle-class is understood differently in your host country. Your host family’s home may be smaller, their house rules are different and their every day routines will be new to you. Part of becoming a truly international person is to learn to live like locals do in another country!
  • The local organization’s representative is there to support both you and your host family. She will contact you and your host family on a periodic basis
  • While you are welcomed as a new student in the school there maybe some restrictions as to what subjects you can study and what activities you can participate in. Usually these are minor restrictions that have not limited the exchange students’ experience
  • It doesn’t matter that you aren’t fluent in the local language or don’t know much of it before leaving the U.S. What matters is that you make an effort to learn to speak the language. You’ll be surprised at how fast you can pick up a language if you keep practicing it daily!
  • The local organizations often organize optional trips and activities

How to choose your host country?

  1. What language do you want to learn?
  2. Does your family have ancestors from a specific country?
  3. Are you interested in something that’s connected to a certain country /culture?
  4. Do you think it would be nice to experience four seasons or would you rather travel to a country that doesn’t have snowy winters, or winters at all?
